Defendify — Brand Identity, 2018–2020

A brand system built from zero, documented well enough to outlive the tenure.
I built Defendify's visual identity from the ground up: the mark, the color system, the type, a library of icons, and a fourteen-page guide so someone else could carry it forward. Pieces of it are still circulating six years after I left.

Positioning
Defendify is built for small and midsize organizations without a dedicated security team, and there was no existing system to inherit, just a blank product in a market nobody had made approachable yet. I led the end-to-end product experience from the platform foundation through MVP and beyond, and the earliest version still could not answer the one question everyone opened it to ask.

That personality ran on top of three brand pillars, the same three-layer structure that later shaped the entire product architecture.
Foundation
Policies, procedures, and plans.
Culture
Employee awareness and institutional knowledge.
Technology
Protection beyond traditional antivirus and firewalls.
Logo
The mark replaces the letter E with a bespoke shield, built from a handful of deliberate choices rather than a generic security icon.
Rounded bottom corners suggest the silhouette of a shield
The stepped top reads as a rampart, or a medieval helmet, timeless and hard to breach
A two-point perspective puts the viewer and the brand on the same level, a shared horizon
The shield's three tiers echo the same Foundation, Culture, Technology structure running through the whole platform

Early concepts explored negative space, server racks, and an isometric cube before landing on the two-point shield.
A mirrored golden ratio refined the final proportions, corner intersections, and alignment.

Clearspace positioning means giving the logo a space to breath without being crowded by other elements.
Color
Two blues and a dark neutral carry most of the system. Orange, pink, green, and red are reserved for accents and status states.

Type
I considered Open Sans for its full 897-character set, covering Latin, Greek, and Cyrillic for localization, and it's open source humanist sans-serif form. It's designed with an upright stress and open, neutral forms that stay friendly, optimized for print, web, and mobile, with strong legibility across the board.

Roboto has a dual nature: a mechanical, geometric skeleton paired with friendly, open curves. Where some grotesks force a rigid rhythm by distorting letterforms, Roboto lets each letter settle into its natural width, giving it the more natural reading rhythm you'd expect from a humanist or serif type.

Icon system
A thirteen-icon library, one per tool, organized under the same three pillars as everything else.

Closing
Six years, still standing
A brand system doesn't outlive its designer by accident. It survives because the logic was documented clearly enough for someone to build on and keep going.
